Happy Green Day

DSC01431_edited-1
This morning, in honor of it being a holiday and all, I actually made breakfast. We had green eggs and "ham" followed by green pancakes and green milk. A leprechaun even brough Wade and Daddy a good luck treat. When we asked Wade if he knew what a leprechaun was, he responded that there was one on Mickey who had gold cookies at the end of the rainbow. Now he thinks his gold coins are cookies. He is such a funny kid.
Happy St. Patty's Day all!

I know, I can't believe it either. He's growing up too fast.DSC02803 copy
So this last week I have tried to wean Sam off of his nighttime feedings. He did great for the first 3 days. But now he wakes up screaming for his binkie, 2-3 times a night. We've tried to let him cry it out, but with Wade sleeping in the same room....well none of us are getting a good night's sleep. Anyone have any miracle suggestions to get a baby to sleep all night?

Caught Red Handed

So over the weekend we were at a birthday party for my nephews. I knew Wade was off playing with his cousins, but I hadn't seen him in a while. When I found him, this is what he was doing...

My baby is 3 months old today. I can't even believe it!
Right now Sam will greet a familiar face with a huge smile. He still loves to be swaddled when he sleeps, but when his arms are not tied down he will often be found chewing on his fist. He also likes to kick his chubby little legs.

Important Life Lesson...

Having your daddy teach you how to dip chocolate chip cookies into a glass of milk...priceless!

Laugh

My little Sam laughed for the first time today when I blew raspberries on his tummy. It made my heart happy.

One thing I love about little boys

No one needs to tell them what to do, they just know how to play cars.
A set of wheels and an imagination is all they need.

Resolute

For our family night this week we finally sat down and talked about some of our goals for the upcoming year. Sadly, this is all we came up with. But a short list means we are more likely to accomplish the things on it, right?

resolutions_edited-1
(ok, I cheated and put Sam's goals down for him. Wade's not particularly thrilled with his either.)

Woody Boots

DSC02714_edited-1
Wade adores Woody from Toy Story. He has nick-named his cowboy boots as his Woody boots.

He wore his Woody boots today. I had taken them off and set them on the floor during his nap. Just after he woke up, he was laying on his bed and he spotted the boots on the floor. After studying them a while, he turns to me and says, "Mom, there's a snake in my boots!"

I laughed so hard I cried.

2 months

My sweet Sam is 2 months old today! He is smiling and cooing at us more these days. He also occasionally finds his fist and goes to town on it. Now if we could just get him to burp after he eats instead of spitting up 2 hours later...

Three

DSC02668 copy
(i'm three)

Accomplishments in my third year:
Learned how to go to school
Got a dog
Got a big boy bed
Learned to swim
Learned to love to jump off grandpa's boat
Got a little brother (he's so cute)
Learned to count
Learned my letters and most of my numbers
Caught my first football
Figured out how to open presents
Learned to talk
Went poops on the potty
Made my first snowman
Picked my favorite sport (football, obviously)
Shoveled my first driveway

and much more that I probably forgot.

Here's to another year even better than the last!

Sam's Special Day

Little Sam was blessed in Church this past Sunday. We were lucky to have so many family members attend because they were in town for the holidays. It was a beautiful day and we were so happy to spend it with so many people we love.

Merry Christmas 2010

Christmas_edited-1

We didn't get to sending out Christmas cards this year, so here's our digital apology. Here's hoping that all of you had loved ones near and were able to spend and enjoy the time together, and that each of you enjoyed your Christmas day as much as the four of us did. Merry Christmas to all!

Love the Broadbents

6 weeks

DSC02634 copy
My little tyke is 6 weeks old today! My how time flies. He has chunked up quite a bit in such a short time and is starting to develop the same spitting-up habits his older brother had. He is also honoring us with a few half smiles that just melt my heart. I am so in love with this little boy!

Girl Party

nutcracker_edited-1
On Saturday we had a girl party. And to make sure no boys would be tempted to bother us, we went to see the Nutcracker. It was Elsie Lou's first time to see a ballet and she was in love...as was my amazing mother who used to dance in the Nutcracker. It was a delightful afternoon and we hope to do it again soon.

Christmas Lights

temple lights 1 temple lights 2
My whole family was able to go together to see the lights at Temple Square this year. We survived the cold and didn't even lose anyone. I love these cute faces!

Once there was a snowman...

DSC02587_edited-1
Phil and Wade built their first snowman ever yesterday (first for both of them). Wade named him Frosty. Unfortunately, the dog saw that they used a carrot for his nose and demolished Frosty as soon as Phil and Wade turned their backs. Sorry Frosty, hopefully you can come back to play next year!

Here Comes Santa Claus

santa_edited-1
When did it become so expensive to have your picture taken with Santa? At least it turned out cute! Wade actually knows who Santa is this year and was so excited to see him. Sam wasn't quite as convinced, but played along anyway.

Ready for Church

Aren't they so handsome!? I sure love these boys.

Monday Night Cookies

Since the Patriots were blowing out the Jets, we decided to make some gingerbread cookies. Wade preferred to eat the m&ms.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Week 3

Mr. Sam has been with us for 3 weeks now, and I can't believe how much he has changed in such a short time. He's already up to 9 pounds but is still a sweet baby. Maybe I'll be lucky and have another good natured little boy (knock on wood).
I have to say that child #2 is MUCH easier than #1. I don't feel like I'm going to break him this time around! DSC02567 copy
(He is definitely starting to look like his big brother)

Daddy's Helper

It snowed today...quite a bit. Wade really wanted to go outside and help his daddy shovel the driveway and we were happy to oblige. He's such a cute little helper, insisting he didn't need any help!

Week 1

DSC02543_edited-1

To celebrate Sam being with us for a week, Wade decided to get an eye and ear infection...so much fun. Luckily, he is taking it like a champ and doesn't even mind that I make him wash his hands every 10 minutes. He absolutely loves his little brother, usually asking to see him first thing in the morning.
Sam has been an angel, making it pretty easy for me to take care to two kids...for now anyway.

Introducing...

Sam_edited-1

Here is the short version of the story for those who care:

Nov. 9 9 am: 38 week check-up; at a 2 1/2; doctor stripped membranes
Nov. 10 2:30 am: I wake up to contractions 8 minutes apart
Nov. 10 4 am: Contractions are 5 minutes apart and I wake Phil up to get ready
Nov. 10 6 am: I call my mom to come stay with Wade so we can head to the hospital
Nov. 10 8:30 am: At a 4 and finally admitted to the hospital; contractions still aren't too bad at this point
Nov. 10 9 am: My doctor breaks my water and contractions immediately get MUCH worse
Nov. 10 somewhere between 9 and 10 am (I am delerious with pain and cannot be held accountable for the time): Get epidural and the doc tries to figure out how much I need; I think I am going to die, literally; 3 doses later he finally gets it right (5 minutes before I start pushing)
Nov. 10 10:39 am: Sam has arrived and is perfectly healthy and I am so relieved!
Nov. 11 around 6 am: that 3 doses of anesthesia finally wear off and I can feel my toes again!

My Little Brother

I spent the morning with my Grandma at her office today. I didn't know why I was there (and not with my Mom) until we stopped at the hospital after lunch. Turns out my Mom finally found a little brother for me. She calls him Sam.
He was 7 lbs, 8 ounces and is doing very well, as is Mom.

A Lovely Day

I wanted to get out and do something fun with Wade today while the weather was still nice, and also to give him some much needed attention before baby brother comes. So we spent the afternoon at the park and it was lovely.

Wade would run through the leaves saying, "this is fun daddy!"

DSC02482_edited-1
I love watching Wade with his daddy. They are such good buds. Wade wasn't too fond of the swings though and begged his daddy to take him home so they could watch football together. How could we refuse such a request?

Halloween

We had a few set backs on Halloween night (Saturday for us), but we still managed to get out and have some fun. Wade ran around saying "Yee-Haw" fully getting into his character. He was also quite enthused by all the pumpkins and the lights inside.

Wade requested we make a Mickey Mouse pumpkin this year and we were happy to oblige.
